Coloring In Kindness

Coloring in Kindness: Inspire, Give, Color
Inspired by a HIS Radio story in 2013, then eight-year-old Adley Ellenburg (now a college student!) found a way to become a local hero: Coloring in Kindness.
What started as a simple idea—collecting coloring books and crayons with the help of small businesses—has grown into a community movement, collecting thousands of items each year for children in hospitals.
Coloring books provide a needed distraction and comfort in hospital rooms and waiting areas. Our goal is to bring this simple, heartfelt kindness to hospitalized children and to inspire families to volunteer and give. We believe in the power of giving back and proving that kindness always colors the world brighter.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What can I donate?
NEW Coloring books (for all ages), crayons (boxes up to 24 crayons), markers, highlighters, colored pencils, crossword puzzles. (We will only be highlighting Coloring books & Crayons on-air).
Do these products have to be new?
YES!! Due to health concerns for the children, only brand new supplies will be accepted.
What CAN’T I donate?
Please refrain from donating any of the following items:
- Boxes of crayons with more than 24 crayons (boxes of 64 can’t be donated).
- Coloring books with any writing, scribbling, or form of use.
- ID stickers/writing (including businesses, bible verses, or anything noting who the book is from)—please do not add messages.
- Religious themed coloring books. Our heart is to share Jesus, but we must do it in the parameters that are allowed in the hospitals. Christmas themes (with Jesus) are okay.
Why do hospitals need so many new coloring books?
Each coloring book/crayons can only be chosen once. Because of cross contamination and germs being spread, children cannot share certain items. Once they are used they go home with the child or are thrown away.
What hospital will my donation go to?
Each market has a specific hospital that donations are being sent to. However, if you order online on the CIK Amazon Wishlist, that goes to the Greenville location. All locations are listed below:
- Greenville: Shriner's Hospital, Greenville
- Columbia: Prisma Health Children's Hospital (Downtown Columbia)
- Myrtle Beach: Grand Strand Medical Center
- Fayetteville: Cape Fear Valley Hospital Children's Center
- Raleigh: UNC Children's Hospital
- Eastern NC: Maynard Children's Hospital
- Charlotte: Levine Children's Hospital (Atrium Health)
- Savannah: Memorial Health Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah
