About Elizabeth "Ninja" Kennon
Hi, I’m Elizabeth, A.K.A. Ninja! Everyone wants to know where the name ninja came from. (because no, that isn’t my given name, lol) First, I want to introduce myself a little bit more. I’m married to the love of my life Dustin (Dusty), new mom to the most handsome baby boy in the entire world Ollie, and mom to 2 fur babies: shadow, a tiny but mighty black cat and Silas, an annoying but you can’t help but love him boxer pity mix.
I grew up on the coast in Bluffton, SC. You point to the literal bottom point of the state; that’s my hometown! I grew up listening to HIS radio; if we were in the car, we had the radio on! I remember being at my grandma’s house as a kid, and I would play my Alvin and the Chipmunks CDs over the baby monitors in the house and pretend to be a radio DJ all evening long. But it wasn’t until high school that God called me to pursue a career out of it. I went through a season of doubting and confusion in my faith. It was a very hard time for me, and no one around me understood, so it felt like I was walking through it alone. I kept reading my bible and listening to Christian music during this time. I remember listening to HIS radio particularly; it seemed as though what they would say and the music I heard was the perfect thing I needed to hear in that movement. I told myself I wanted to help encourage someone like that one day. And God kept opening the doors for me to do so.
I was homeschooled, and every opportunity I had to intern or volunteer at a radio station, I took it. I went to North Greenville University and Graduated with a Broadcasting degree. While at NGU, I interned with HIS radio for 2 years. After graduation, I worked with Britt Dillard at HIS Radio Z and First Baptist Spartanburg Church. In 2021, I came on board the HIS radio team as a morning show producer, which led me to where I am today, doing middays, producing the morning show, and audio editing.
Here are a few fun facts about me: I love baking, embroidery, and all things purple! (people say I am an 80-year-old trapped in a 20-something’s body) Fall is my favorite season, but Christmas is my favorite holiday. If calories didn’t count, I would eat a crumbl cookie daily. I love to plan parties and host people!
Oh, I guess I still need to explain where “Ninja” came from…
During my college days I applied for a job on campus and I thought it would help my chances if I included that I was a kids’ Jiu-Jitsu instructor. I got a job helping with campus chapel media, my boss thought it was cool and jokingly called me ninja one day. And it stuck! This nickname has literally followed me everywhere since then haha!
