HIS Radio General Manager Allen Henderson shares a remarkable story from FriendRaiser 2018. It involves a widow named Martha and how God miraculously used her gift of $1.25.
Wednesday night after day three of FriendRaiser, a lady stopped my car as I was pulling out of the parking lot. As she quickly approached the car I had no idea what she wanted. She was very anxious to talk with me. She had rushed from Spartanburg and barely caught me. I was the last one to leave the station and 5 seconds later I would have been gone. You can see what I mean from our security camera footage:
Her name is Martha and she has listened to the station since it started. When she was younger and able to work she worked in accounting. She is battling cancer and can no longer work but tries to do volunteer work.
Since she has limited resources she said she wanted to give a widow’s mite offering to the station. She went back to her car and came back with 5 quarters as her gift to FriendRaiser. Her prayer was that her giving would encourage others to do the same.
After sharing this story on the air during FriendRaiser on Thursday listeners called in wanting to do what Martha did. They gave in varying amounts from $1.25 up to $1,250.00. The amount of her gift that was matched or that encouraged other people to give amounted to over $22,000 at last count. God used Martha’s faithfulness and her widow’s mite to bless His Radio in a huge way.
The story of the widow's mite teaches as that it's not the size of the gift that matters, it's the amount of sacrifice.God sees what man often overlooks. Even though the widow had very little, she still had a heart to give. As Luke 21:1-4 says, "And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
Do you feel inspired to give in honor of Martha? It's not too late! Your gift will always be used to accomplish great things on behalf of Jesus Christ! Give now and Martha's $1.25 will go even further!
