Brian Davis-Golden Strip YMCAHi. I need some help. I currently weigh 345 pounds. My weight has had a tremendously negative effect on my life and the lives of my family. I was always a little heavy growing up, but managed to get in pretty good shape my senior year of high school. Unfortunately as time progressed, I steadily gained despite trying every fad diet that came along over the years. I peaked in 2008 at 394 pounds.

It really started taking a toll on my life and I was an embarassment to my family. If I walked more than a few minutes my back would ache and I would be tired. At the age of 35 I acted like a much older man.

I have always been strong and enjoy sports and outdoor activities, but I let work and excuses keep me from getting the exercise I need, and overeating became a habit - an addiction. In October of 2008 I started taking the situation seriously after being faced with what I was doing to my marriage, my family, and my life overall.

I started exercising and eating better, and managed to lose 115 pounds within about 8 months. I felt better than I had in a decade! I went from not being comfortable walking around the grocery store to jogging 2 miles 5 times per week. I had to buy new clothes! I was on the right track, below 300 pounds for the first time in 10 years!

Unfortunately it didn't last. Due to the economy I lost my job in May and was without permanant employment for several months. During this time I also experienced family problems and admit that I fell into a depression. I went back to my old habits, the running fell off and the eating became more frequent.

My weight climbed back to 345 pounds, where I am now. Looking back I realize that some of that weight loss was due to my going to extremes in terms of dieting. I would sometimes go for days with only 400 or 500 calories taken in.

I never learned to truly eat in a healthy, sustainable way. While I am still much healthier than I was 2 years ago - I'm still running a few days a week, I still have a long way to go and I know with the right help that I can do this. I can change my whole life for the better. I think what you are doing is wonderful and I'd love to be a part of it.

Rob's story is incredibly inspiring and shows me that it is possible to successfully loose the weight and keep it off for good. I want to be one of Rob's Big Losers!

2/26/10

I had a good week.  Worked hard and lost about 5 pounds. I really enjoy starting the day in the gym now and look forward to the numbers dropping on the scale each week.

2/19/10

This week has been a challenge.  I missed a couple of workouts early in the week due to being sick, so I'm playing catch up now.  Hopefully with some extra workouts over the upcoming weekend I can get back on track.
